The importance of safety cannot be overstated in many of world's favorite pastimes and activities. Many sports require safety equipment as a mandatory part of their uniforms. One of the commonly associated forms of safety in sports is the helmet. Sports using helmets include football, lacrosse, cycling, and many others. The professional and many amateur leagues of these sports implement helmet mandates as an important safety feature protecting the lives and welfare of the players. The prevalence of helmets in other areas of sports and activities is incredibly large. For example, many extreme sports such as skateboarding, snowboarding, rollerblading, BMX, motocross, and rock climbing usually rely on a helmet as an integral piece of their activity equipment. For this reason, these extreme sports result in relatively low injury rates if players, participants, and event organizers take all the proper safety precautions to protect their lives and the lives of spectators as well. In a professional occupation setting, many companies seek to establish low to no rates of injury at their workplace. This lack of injuries results in not only lower insurance premiums and rates for these companies, but also boosts the overall welfare and general moral of the workforce at large. Industries that usually employ helmets in their basic work attire include construction, manufacturing, builders, public safety workers, and law enforcement.

For most workers and athletes, spending hours a day with their helmet is a regular occurrence. For some workers, the color of the helmet is vial in keeping them happy. The shell color of helmets attracts many workers, athletes, activists, and enthusiasts. Helmets attract many of the players from more masculine oriented sports and activities. Some companies use a companywide helmet as a sign of pride and strength. For construction companies, black helmets are a regular occurrence. Helmets are preferred by many extreme sports athletes due to their desire to place decals on the black helmets themselves. Black helmets also match nicely with the preferred skateboarding attire of dark colored clothes. Black helmets, by most standards, are the most common color of shell for extreme athletes as well as many hockey and lacrosse players. In equestrian events, riders are frequently seen sporting helmets for their riding safety.

There are also some other considerations to make when choosing helmets. Although black helmets have fashion appeal, there is a practical purpose for these devices. Black helmets are known to attract and retain sunlight and sun rays much better than lighter colored helmets. For hockey players, those working outdoors, and extreme athletes in colder climates, the little extra warmth black helmets potentially offer is appealing. Black helmets may increase the amount of time these workers and athletes can stay on the job or participating in their sport. For die hard athletes, enthusiasts, and dedicated employees, helmets may mean being able to maintain their desired course of action and work without fear of extreme cold or hypothermia. Black helmets not only protect the craniums and brains of the wearers, but also, keep the users comfortable in the midst of their activities.
